Diagnostic Services

Endoscopy / Video Otoscope
Our in-house endoscopy equipment gives us the opportunity to look inside your pet's body. Directly viewing the interior of an organ is often extremely helpful in diagnosing certain medical and surgical conditions. Both organ biopsies and exploratory surgeries are performed using an endoscope. Through endoscopy, an abdominal exploratory surgery requires less anesthesia, less surgery time and is much less traumatic to your pet than by the old-fashioned exploratory method.
Ear disease is a common problem in our pets. Until now, diagnosing and treating most ear diseases has been difficult and the results have been mediocre at best. Southern Hills Veterinary Hospital utilizes a computerized video otoscope in order to perform ear exams, diagnose diseases and treat external and middle ear problems.

Radiology
Essential for diagnosing certain medical and surgical problems, x-rays are an integral part of veterinary care. Our state of the art radiograph machine provides excellent quality diagnostic images to help our staff diagnose your pet's problem quickly and efficiently.
Electrocardiogram (EKG)
We have state of the art monitoring equipment to detect or record any cardiac problems your pet may experience. We are often able to diagnose certain heart conditions that may otherwise go unnoticed using our EKG.

Ultrasound
An important, non-invasive diagnostic tool, ultrasound can often be more exact than radiography. Used primarily for abdominal and cardiac examinations, ultrasounds provide us with live, three dimensional images.
Laboratory
With our new, state-of-the-art blood analyzer and laboratory equipment, we are able to perform most diagnostic tests on our patients. Since we do not need to wait for outside laboratory reports, medical conditions can be diagnosed quickly and most treatments can be started before you and your pet leave the hospital. Only in unusual or complex cases do we send out to a referral lab for more complete results.
